Our History

The purpose of the USNA Parents Club of Maryland is to provide support to our United States Naval Academy Midshipmen, and to provide information and support to their parents and guardians.  USNA Parents Clubs exist in almost every state in the nation and in some foreign countries.  We are organized under the auspices of the USNA Alumni Association.  Our club was founded in 1981 by Joe and Lorrie Latchford.

Our club is unique in that we are the only club that operates in the same state as the United States Naval Academy.  We meet formally from four to six times a year, and are fortunate to be able to have guest speakers from the Academy leadership and staff make presentations.  Our programs provide an opportunity for parents to learn and to ask questions about topics of mutual interest.

This website will keep you up-to-date on Club activities, current happenings at the Academy, and other items of interest pertaining to our Midshipmen.  We, together with the Parents Clubs of New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania, host a tailgate at all home football games that serves between 600 and 1000 midshipmen a home-cooked meal after the game.  We are happy to add you to our email list which will keep you additionally up-to-date on Club activities, particularly those related to tailgate.

Our other events include a Commissioning 101 event in January, First Salute Coin sales in the spring, a Welcome Aboard picnic in June, participation in I-Day activities in June-July, participation in Plebe Parents weekend activities, and our membership meetings.
